Mrs. Opal Kane passed away Thursday, May 18th. She was born on May 16, 1925, in Sumiton, Alabama. After attending school in Alabama, she moved to Houston to live with her Aunt Pearl. She began working as a cashier at A&P Grocery Store where she met her future husband Edward Kane. After approximately 3.5 years of courtship he proposed and they were married on April 27, 1950. The following year they began their family with their first daughter Delores Kane. The following year, their son, Roland Kane, was born. As she started to raise her young, she became very involved in the PTA and numerous school organizations. Opal and Edward decided they needed one more family member a few years later, so Opal gave birth to a third child, Denise Kane. Their family was complete. As she continued to raise their children, Edward started a business that would grow to support their family for many years to come. When the kids were older, she began working in the family business, Kane's Boot & Western Shop. She continued to work alongside Ed and her daughters in the store for over 20 years. Through the years, Opal and Ed were very active in supporting the Houston Farm and Ranch Club, HLS&R, and the Harris County Fair; and supported the youth of many school districts.
In recent years she enjoyed spending time with her daughter, Denise, shopping and going to the beauty shop for her hair and nails. She also enjoyed her family visiting to go swimming and shared many of her special recipes. Her favorite thing was washing clothes and she never left any laundry undone.
Opal and Edward remained married over 67 years as a testimony of true love.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Big Daddy and Momma Long, her sisters Nonie Tucker and and Helen "Dinky" Cole and her Daughter Delores Kane.
She was survived by her husband of 67 + years Edward Kane, her sister Lewellen Finch. Her brothers Don Long and his wife Cindy, Terry Long and his wife Edith, and Jerry Long and his wife Charlene. Her son and daughter in-law Roland and Dolores Kane. Her daughter Denise Kane. Grandchildren, Dana Garrett, Kelly and Mike Browning, Bradley Kane, Lori and Mike Reininger, George and Makayla Kane.
